Omega brought out the B600 in 1976 as a low-priced home enlarger, built to take on the small domestic and imported entry-level enlargers of the day, as KHB Photografix tells it. It prints 35mm up to 6x6 cm with a double condenser head and a 75 W PH140 opal lamp, and it does without a lensboard altogether, since the lens stage itself is threaded for 39mm Leica-mount lenses. A Chromega B600 version came with the Chromega B dichroic head, and adapter kits later let owners fit the C700 or C760 dichroic heads. It only lasted until 1979. The C700 that followed reused many of its parts, carriers and accessories, and that overlap is why a B600 is still easy to keep running. KHB pitches it as a good first enlarger for a small or temporary darkroom, and its 14x19 in baseboard still handles 11x14 prints.
B600 condenserChromega B600 dichroic, with standard or stabilized power supplyB600 retrofitted with a C700 or C760 dichroic headB635, the 35mm sibling on the same chassis
The stock head is a double condenser lamphouse with a 75 W PH140 teardrop opal lamp, which KHB Photografix still sells new. For 110, 126 and other tiny negatives with lenses shorter than 50mm, a supplementary condenser goes over the main pair. The Chromega B600 has a Chromega B dichroic head instead, with a 75 W 27 V halogen lamp and an external power supply. Ask which head it has and for a photo with the lamp lit.
Carriers and condensers
The B600 takes the spring-loaded rapid shift glassless carriers shared with the B66, B635 and C700, from Minox up to 6x6 cm, plus a 6x4.5 carrier and a 6x6 glass carrier. Since the C700 used the same carriers, spares are easy to match. Look in the photos for the carriers you'll print with.
Column and bellows
The column is a rigid steel girder with a reference scale, a constant-force counterbalance spring and a lift-and-lock carriage with an oversized lock knob. Two focus rods carry the bellows. Ask whether the carriage holds where it's locked, and ask for a photo of the bellows with a light inside.
Alignment
KHB credits the twin focus rods with keeping focus and alignment precise. On arrival, check the baseboard, negative stage and lens stage with a spirit level in both directions, and recheck after fitting any dichroic head adapter.
Lens
There's no lensboard to lose, because the lens stage itself is threaded for 39mm Leica-mount lenses. Some B600s were sold as packages with a 50mm lens and a 35mm carrier. Check the photos for a lens screwed into the stage if one is listed.
Timer and power
The condenser head plugs straight into an enlarging timer. The Chromega B head needs its own power supply, standard or stabilized, and KHB warns that a non-standard lamp can damage it. If a dichroic head is in the listing, look for the power supply in the photos.
Shipping and pickup
KHB lists its refurbished B600 at about 10.5 kg (23 lb), on a 14x19 in baseboard. At that weight it's an ordinary parcel. Ask for the condensers and lamp to be packed apart from the head.
Should come with it
Double condenser set
Filter drawer
35mm and 6x6 carriers
Red safety filter
Power supply (Chromega B600 version)
Hard to find if missing
Chromega B power supply
Supplementary condenser for lenses under 50mm
Adapter kit for fitting a dichroic head
Check the listing photos against these lists, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing carrier, condenser or lens board should come off the price.
What to check
KHB calls the B600 fully serviceable because it shares so many parts with the C700, so missing pieces are the usual problem. Chromega B heads need their external power supply, and KHB warns that a non-standard lamp can damage it.
01Carriers: Look in the photos for the 35mm and 6x6 carriers. Both should be the spring-hinged rapid shift type.
02Condensers: Ask for a photo of the condenser pair out of the head. Clear glass with no chips is what you want.
03Head type: Ask whether it's the condenser head or a Chromega B dichroic. The dichroic version needs its power supply in the box.
04Lamp: Ask the seller to light the lamp with the head closed. An even glow with no leaks around the lamp cap is good.
05Lens: Check the photos for a 39mm lens screwed into the lens stage. A 50mm lens covers 35mm, and a 75mm lens covers 6x6.
06Bellows: Ask for a photo of the bellows lit from inside in a dark room. No pinholes or splits should show.
07Elevation: Ask whether the carriage holds when the lock knob is released. It should stay where you leave it.
08Alignment: On arrival, check the baseboard, negative stage and lens stage with a spirit level. All three should read the same both ways.

There are at least 8 for sale, and the typical one that quotes shipping asks $210 to $410 delivered. A Chromega B head needs its external power supply, which is hard to find alone, so on anri-692346's boxed dichroic outfit with 2 lenses and 2 carriers at $321.63 delivered, ask whether the supply is in the box. Skip the $999.99 boxed Concept Six set, about 3.6 times the $296 median, and be wary of the $170.82 unit from a 97.2% seller whose photo shows only a box.
