The VC6700 is LPL's budget variable-contrast enlarger, the 6700 chassis with a VCCE head in place of the color one. LPL's 2001 catalog pitched it at black-and-white multigrade papers, with stepless contrast from the softest grade to the hardest using yellow and magenta dichroic filters. VCCE stands for variable contrast, constant exposure, so changing grade shouldn't mean a new test strip. It came on the long 92 cm column also used by the C6700L, with a built-in 39mm lens thread and a 35mm carrier, and LPL noted it works as a plain 6x7 black-and-white enlarger too. KHB Photografix, LPL's Canadian distributor, says it kept its name in the US as the Omega/LPL VC6700, and Saunders/LPL sold 6700s as well. North American units take an 85W 82V lamp. LPL sold the color, VCCE and condenser heads separately, so check which head is on the base. KHB now lists the enlarger as discontinued.

Light source and lamp
It's a VCCE head using yellow and magenta dichroic filters over a quartz-halogen lamp: 85W 82V on North American units, 100W 12V with an external supply elsewhere, and 100V 150W in Japan. KHB still lists the 85W 82V lamp, but it had none in stock when we checked in October 2026. Ask which lamp is in it and for a photo with it lit.
Carriers and condensers
It takes LPL's glassless carriers for 35mm, 6x4.5, 6x6 and 6x7, shared with the 7700 series, plus the universal glass carrier. New ones came with a 35mm carrier and a safety filter for black and white. There are no condensers, so the carrier is the only part you swap between formats.
Column and bellows
The 92 cm column has a counterbalanced press-to-lift, release-to-lock carriage and turns around for floor projection. Ask whether the head holds its height when let go at mid-column. KHB still lists a replacement counterbalance spring for the 6600 and 6700.
Lens
The lensboard is built in with a 39mm Leica thread, so any 39mm-thread enlarging lens fits. LPL sold its own 50mm, 75mm and 80mm lenses, but none came in the standard kit, so check the listing for one.
Timer and power
Ask whether it's an 82V North American unit, a 12V unit or a 100V Japanese one. KHB says the 12V version needs an external power supply, so make sure that's in the box if it applies. Run it through your own enlarging timer.
Shipping and pickup
LPL lists it at 10 kg and KHB at about 13 kg, on a 45x45 cm baseboard and 1,080 mm tall overall. It's one of the easier enlargers to ship if the head is boxed apart from the column.
Should come with it
VCCE head with its lamp
A 35mm carrier, standard in the box
6x6 or 6x7 carriers if you shoot medium format
Baseboard and column
The external power supply on 12V units
Hard to find if missing
The 85W 82V North American lamp when KHB is out of stock
The external power supply for 12V units
110 and 126 carriers
Check the listing photos against these lists, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing carrier, condenser or lens board should come off the price.
What to check
KHB's parts list for the 6600 and 6700 is short: a counterbalance spring, the baseboard, carriers and lamps. The lamp is the part to ask about, since the 85W 82V North American lamp was out of stock at KHB when we checked.
01Head: Check the head label in the photos for VC6700 or VCCE. A three-dial head means a C6700 color head instead.
02Contrast control: Ask the seller to run the contrast control through its range with the lamp on. The light should shift smoothly between yellow and magenta.
03Voltage: Ask whether it's an 82V, 12V or 100V Japanese unit. A 12V unit needs its external power supply in the box.
04Carriers: Count the carriers in the photos. The 35mm carrier should be there, plus 6x6 or 6x7 if you need them.
05Counterbalance: Ask whether the head stays put when let go at mid-height. A carriage that doesn't creep means the spring is fine.
06Lens: Check the listing for a lens on the 39mm board. Any 39mm-thread 50mm or 80mm enlarging lens will fit.
We haven’t been through this model’s listings yet. Search eBay and run every listing through the checklist above. Ask which negative carriers, condensers or mixing box and lens board come with it, for a photo of the lamp lit, and for a photo of the bellows with a light inside them. Pass on any seller who won’t answer.
