- Light source and lamp
- D2s came with a double condenser head, the DV variable condenser head, the Omegalite cold light or a dichroic head. The condenser heads take a 75 W PH211 opal lamp, with the 150 W PH212 as a brighter option that runs hotter, and KHB Photografix had both in stock in October 2026. The Omegalite uses an 8¼ in circline tube that Omega stopped supplying, though KHB says other sources still have them. Ask which head it has and for a photo with the lamp lit.
- Carriers and condensers
- The D2 takes Omega's two-piece D-series carriers from 16mm up to 4x5 in, and KHB lists old-style and current versions of most sizes. With the double condenser head each lens range needs its own condenser set, 3½ in for 50mm to 60mm lenses, 4 11/16 in for 75mm to 105mm and 6½ in for 135mm to 150mm. A DV head swaps the extra sets for one variable condenser lens. Look in the photos for the condensers or variable lens your formats need.
- Column and bellows
- The D2 has twin chassis rails, rack-and-pinion elevation and counterbalance springs at the top of the column, and an XL chassis was offered. Its bellows dry out, crack and develop pinholes with age, and KHB sells replacements. Ask the seller to crank the head through its full travel and for a photo of the bellows with a light inside.
- Alignment
- Omega's Technical Service Manual has the D2 alignment procedure, and the Omega alignment tool checks the baseboard, negative stage and lens stage with a spirit level. On arrival, check that all three agree in both directions.
- Lens
- Lenses from 50mm to 105mm sit in round lens discs on a flat mount, and 135mm and 150mm lenses need a 2¾ in or 4½ in lens cone. Discs were made with 25mm, 32.5mm, 39mm, 42mm, 50mm and other holes. Check the photos for the mount, discs and any cones that match the lenses you'll use.
- Timer and power
- Condenser and Omegalite heads plug into an ordinary enlarging timer. Super Chromega dichroic heads need Omega's power supply or the Chromegatrol stabilized supply and timer. If a dichroic head is in the listing, look for the power supply in the photos.
- Shipping and pickup
- We couldn't source a weight for the D2. KHB lists a DV condenser lamphouse alone at about 8 kg, and Blue Moon Camera sells the later 4x5 D5XL, listed at 88 lb, for local pickup only. Plan on pickup if you can, or ask the seller to pull the condensers and pack the head and column apart.
Check the listing photos against these lists, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing carrier, condenser or lens board should come off the price.
